Location: tijuana, mexicotime: december, 2016. Riding a route taxi through the streets of tijuana. It's the evening on a weekday and people are coming off work. An ambulance cruises by. Passengers are silent most of the ride until minute 4:40 when the driver stops on a busy boarding zone. Coins jingle when people pay the driver. The door slides open and you can hear people on the street chatting, while passengers get off and new ones come in.

This is about 2 minutes total. It is of an approaching long freight train passing about 100 yards away in it's entirety. Train was doing around 45 mph. There are no other background sounds, no traffic, no crossing alarms, no street noise, no airplanes, no people, etc. There are three diesel electric locomotives in the front, then about a mile of freight cars, then one diesel electric locomotive "pushing" from the rear (it almost sounds like a jet engine!). We got in the van and drove down a rural road in arkansas, united states. On the side of that road, we found whittington creek. One friday night, me and my partner were eating dinner, and we both heard a click. She perks up, "what was that?" and i said "the dryer is running, probably something in it" and she goes "no it was inside" (our dryer is like a back door outside porch kinda deal). I noticed it came from inside as well, in the kitchen, but mentally shrugged it off because lasagna. But now i know she heard it inside too, so i walk in the kitchen where the sound came from and don't see anything moving or on. I took note of where my cats were in case anything was being chewed on: one in bed, one on the couch, they aren't chewing on anything or are even near the clicking sound, so back to dinner. About 45 minutes later, dinner is wrapped up, my partner is asleep and i start turning off all the lights. When i turn the kitchen lights off, there is a light that stays on in the corner. I have a car battery recharger there: it has usb ports in case ya lose power, charger cables, and a flashlight attached on the side. . . . Which is on. I turn it off: exact same click that i heard earlier. Do i have a ghost?.

This wood thrush was recorded around 7:30 in the morning in heavy woods in deep southern illinois. Unlike my earlier posting of the wood thrush singing at dusk, this morning recording has the wood thrush singing with lots of company, although he clearly rises above his neighbors. 17 seconds into the recording you hear the drumming of a woodpecker, and at one-minute 20 seconds into the recording you hear the distinctive-lonely sounding call of the huge pileated woodpecker. Recording made with good-quality stereo microphones so use headphones to get a wonderful experience.

Some occasional heartbeats may be heard as the mother cat or kittens move inside. It was raining one night so i used a sony px720 digital voice recorder to catch some hopefully cool atmospheric type sounds. I placed the recorder next to my apartment window and stepped away for a few minutes. My window is situated right next to a rain-gutter so you hear the rain hitting the pavement along with the rain flowing down the gutter. You also hear four different cars drive by during the recording. Well that's about it hopefully these sounds are of some use to people.

I am just putting the finishing touches on an album collecting the various songs i have written for the town in this role. One of the songs mentions the church bells that ring out every day in at the top of the hill in town, so i thought it would be nice to open that song with a field recording of the bells. Every day at noon, center congregational church in manchester, ct, usa plays a full 10 minutes of music. This is a recording of the full 10 minutes as played on december 4th, 2022 - recorded with a zoom h1n, fades added in audacity. It was quite windy and despite my wind sock, there is the occasional audible gust. I was set away from direct traffic sound, but there is ambient traffic sound. There was also a church maintenance truck that slowly drove past me midway through the recording (probably curious at the strange person with the tripod recorder and headphones). August, 2nd 2013. About eight and a half minutes worth of summer evening ambience, with crickets and cicadas leading the evening songs. Nothing too eventful, but a nice finish to a great day. Recorded at 48khz, 24 bit. Stereo pair of behringer c-2s (cardioid). The mics have an on-board 3-position switch, with labels "flat," "low-cut," and "-10db. " the switch was set in the -10db position (whoops!). It is unclear if this position also activates the low-cut. Additionally, a 24db/oct low-cut applied in pro-tools at 80hz to clean up a slight wind ruffle. Since it was late at night, and the rest of the family was in bed, i opened my window and placed the microphones (almost) right up against the screen. The a/c unit you can hear is directly below the window. Around the 4:45 mark, the digital thermostat hit a programming mark and kicked the air conditioner back on. My iphone died, but not completely. The screen was cracked, the battery was failing and it was difficult to make contact in the worn charging socket to charge it. It reset itself frequently and never stayed on in any temperature below 65 degrees f. So i downloaded my data and activated a new phone, but lo and behold, i couldn't turn off the old one. I would have to wait for the battery to run down. For once, the battery lasted. Two days later i listened to the alarm go off for ten minutes. My arms were full of laundry, and suddenly my backup alarm started blaring, loaded with an obnoxious ringtone. My back porch is concrete. My 16-ounce claw hammer was handy.

A slinky spring toy stretched out and plucked once from the end, recorded with a zeppelin design labs cortado impedance-matched piezo contact microphone. The resulting recording is a classic spring-based sci-fi "laser sound" with a massive, lengthy, rumbling decay tail. This was recorded at 24 bit 96 khz. In addition to its use as a sound effect, this waveform works well inside a convolution reverb as an offbeat spring reverb impulse response, provided one has the processor power and ram to support a 2 minute 13 second convolution. The cortado's bass response is exceptionally large for a contact mic, so high pass filtering may be desired if used as an impulse response.

The office chair is a usual one with wheels and black, but been fixed and soldered and painted a lot for over 2 years (don't khow how long this chair was being used by the previous owner. To get the sound i just sit on it, put my phone on a tripod using the apk easy voice recorder pro by digipom, and then started moving with my feet trying for 30 minutes to get interesting sounds out of it, sometimes falling to get one continuous sound, but i never did that so my experience and technique is lacking also i dind't edit in audacity i just recorded send to email and uploaded here. The thing is that i got as a gift from a family friend and me and my dad soldered that thing probably 6 times to fix the sounds,pieces falling off, me geting in the ground after the entire base broked!( i wished i could show the picture in the center down of it) so before i went ahead to fix it again, i decided after talking to friends if i should record and upload, so here it is!. One of my favorite spots to hike in illinois has this quite long, and beautiful and rock-lined beautiful creek. Now, even though this creek is in heavy forest, which often leads to very low water levels during the summer, this creek is spring fed so it always has a beautiful ribbon of pure water running 12 months out of the year. I've spent many minutes and countless hours beside this living, breathing water-course pondering the beauty of nature, and reflecting back on my childhood. A childhood filled with much love and many creek adventures. This was recorded on march 8 2021, at a time in the midwest woods when the mayapples are popping up-- lime green umbrellas spotting the forest floor. Boring sound. . . Neuron patch (?). . . Inspired by nlc squid axon (i have saved some hp for that one!) i have patched up a simple 2 stage asr with 2 s/h. Most of the time it plays its atonal melody, but when the patch is stimulated (by a sloth lfo) feedback opens up. I can adjust the sensitivity in different ways (so i can simulate the intake of drugs. . . ). The sound from the oscs goes though vcfs with some resonance. The vcfs are controlled by the same sloth lfo. My neuron patch. . . No hands during recording. My favourite part is when nothing happens - for almost 1 min?! but you can hear the filter working via the vcfs. The cv must be in some strange area.

Bells ring to mark the start of evening mass at notre-dame cathedral (notre dame de paris) in paris, france on christmas day in 2011. The first bell heard is the largest, the "emmanuel" bourdon bell, which weighs 13 tons. After 90 seconds or so, the other bells in the north tower start to ring as well. After several minutes of continuous ringing, the bells are allowed to slowly stop ringing. A few soft clicking noises right at the start of the recording come from me adjusting the recording level (which i couldn't do until the bells started to ring). I just love this deep rich harmonic sound with some phase modulation! i've tried to capture it the last month and half and finally managed it. There's quite a lot of air traffic (planes and helicopters) here in prague - písnice, but most of the helicopters have poor sound. First it approaches with the deep harmonic sound, then it flies by overhead with a more noisy mid-spectrum sound. Recorded on zoom h4nsp, this time with 4gb sd card which has far lower startup time than 32 gb one (like 12 secs compared to more than a minute). If you dl and inspect the wave you can see that in the beginning and the end it is a sawtooth wave, but in the middle part the filter affects the wave form.

I recorded this today (1/12/23) from atlanta, where we had a bunch of heavy rain and tornado warnings this afternoon. The radio station i recorded this from is am 750. The first part of the recording isn't very interesting, but the part where she started talking about how you can't see any tornados coming was really interesting to me. I think this would make for some really good ambience in like an environmental horror track. I decided to include the whole recording anyways in case anyone wanted it. Here's the backstory to this thingey if anyone really wants it:we were on tornado watch as i was speeding trying to get home from work, when the sirens started to go off. I had to pull into a disheveled looking parking garage, as that was the closest place i could get to. The garage only had one level, so i had no way of getting to lower ground. I sat there in my car, terrified that i might be stuck there, in a shitty parking deck, in the middle of a giant ass storm, with very little cell signal, for hours on end. I decided to turn on my radio and record it from my phone. Fortunately, i was only in there for 30 minutes, and i managed to get home after the rain cleared up a bit.

They are rarely seen, but during mating season in the spring, they are often heard.
